Music News: Panic! at the Disco Releases New Single “Victorious”

maxresdefaultRock outfit Panic! at the Disco continues to ramp up to their next album with the release of a third single! “Victorious,” a synth-heavy, energy-boosting anthem, has a completely different sound from the previous two songs, “Hallelujah” and “Death of a Bachelor.” Whenever the next album drops, I think we’re going to be looking at quite a varied mix of sounds.

There’s a lot of great imagery in the “Victorious” lyrics–some that harkens back to their debut A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out or third album Vices and Virtues. I’m particular to the opening line: “Double bubble disco queen, heading to the guillotine.” That, right there, is the content I signed up for. There’s a message behind “Victorious” that may not be evident from a cursory glance at the lyrics. According to lead singer Brendon Urie, you don’t necessarily win by being the best–sometimes courage and passion are enough to succeed. He explains over at their website:

I was never really great at sports. Never picked first for the team. Never had any game saving plays or tricks I could use to my advantage to then be hoisted upon my team mates’ shoulders in praise of my winning awesomeness.

But what I missed in that regard, I made up for in passion and intensity. The guy who was known for turning up the crazy. The guy who said “fuck it I’ll do it.”

That’s truly victorious. Giving it your all when it’s all you have. Giving ‘em hell to get a taste of heaven. So I say give ’em a taste of your poison. Turn up the crazy.
