“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” – KanYe West

Gaby says:

I’ve been a fan of Kanye West since the beginning. I love “College Drop-out,” “Late Registration,” and “Graduation.” (“808’s and Heartbreak” doesn’t exist to me.) I was lucky to go to his Glow in the Dark tour in 2008, where he put on an amazing show. He proves that he is one of the best performers around. If you are still upset over the whole Taylor Swift debacle last year, it’s time to put that aside because Kanye is back better than ever.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. More like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantastical Masterpiece.

I’m serious. Kanye West’s new album is a masterpiece. Every song is perfect. The collaborations are astounding. One of the most epic songs on the album is “All of the Lights,” which features Rhianna, Alicia Keys, Tony Williams, Fergie, piano by Elton John and more. In “Monster,” Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver collaborate with West.

Despite the sounds, beats, collabs and overall extravagance, this is essentially one of West’s most emotional pieces. It’s gripping listening to him rap about both anguish and pride. It’s very poignant and there are times during the album that give you time to think about what he’s saying and trying to convey to everyone. It’s not full of catchy sounds and lyrics. Every single part of each song has a meaning. All of this is what makes it the album of the year. This is what makes it a masterpiece. Kanye is not just a rapper anymore. He’s grown into something more with this album.

The album has spent the last two days on repeat on my iPod. It is all I want to listen to, despite what mood I’m feeling. Hip Hop fan or not, you will appreciate “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” as part of the BEST music of this generation.

Lucy says:

I can’t begin to explain the level this album is. If you’re making music now, listen to this and then try to beat it. And I can assure you can’t come even close.

Kanye West disappeared from the public light after the Taylor Swift issue at the VMA’s, I personally believe that the media took this out of proportion, but the only good thing about being away from everything is : Kanye worked his butt off making this masterpiece. In “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” you can see that Kanye put a lot of work into this piece of art, its a whole new different sound, a whole new perspective given to us about Kanye, a whole new level of hip-hop (if this can be labeled as hip-hop at all). I don’t think that anyone out there has showed how they can break all frontiers in music and make an album that in 50 years, if not less will be considered a classic, MARK MY WORDS. You might read this and say “why so much praise for Kanye?”, then listen to the album young folk, and then we can talk. Rolling Stone gave it 5 out of 5 stars, Pitchfork.com gave it 10.0 perfect score for an album (which has NEVER happened before), and here at TYF, if we had some sort of rating for albums…trust me we would give it the top score and beyond.
I heard some of the songs through the G.O.O.D Fridays releases, and I knew this album was going to be amazing. Collabs are great, beats are astounding, the production is flawless, lyrics are stunning, everything about it is just perfect.

West has developed a new level of expectations in music, if you don’t go as far as he does, then don’t even bother trying beating him, he’s already at the top. If this album doesn’t get a Grammy for Album of the Year then I don’t know what could.
