TV Review: Nashville 3×6 – “Nobody Said it Was Going to Be Easy”

The CMA nominations arrived in Nashville this week and “Ruke” is taking over!

Rayna and Luke stomped the competition, reining in the majority of the nominations, six and five respectively. But have they just become each other’s competition, or have they achieved so much because of their relationship? Rayna loves her independence and she’s not appreciating how the music industry only wants to do promos together as a couple. Rayna even pushes Luke out of a joint appearance on DWTS so she can prove her success is on her own merit. It seems to me these two are going to begin butting heads!

Juliette may have not received any CMA nominations this year (except for her collaboration with Avery—awkward), but she’s alive and grateful! She and the baby are okay, but she’s going to have to cancel the rest of her tour. Avery arrives at the hospital and this happens: * look at the way they look at each other* swoon*

Noah (Derek Hough) was there to support Juliette’s side too. He couldn’t have chosen a worse time to walk in with flowers—right when Avery arrived.

That was enough to drive Avery away, even though Juliette and Noah are just friends. Certainly Noah showed he has deeper interests, but I totally loved that Juliette didn’t just jump on board with Noah like she would have in the past.

Noah seems kind and gentle. It was a mature side of Juliette that decided to look out for her baby’s interests, less selfish—I like this side of Juliette; her maternal instincts are suiting her well.

She seeks Avery out to find out where they stand; after all, he did drive all night to see Juliette. Juliette gives Avery two conditions—either he’s all in or all out.

Unfortunately, Avery isn’t going to adhere to Juliette’s ultimatums. He’s decided to forgive her (thank goodness because he was such a mess), but he can’t trust her. Hence, he can’t be in a relationship with someone he can’t trust, breaking my poor little heart to pieces. However, he will remain in the baby’s life whether Juliette likes it or not.

In other baby daddy news, Gunnar is freaking out! He turns to Scarlett for some advice on how to deal with finding out he’s a father, nine years later!

He decides to convince Kiley to stay in Nashville, and he’s getting closer to Mika at least as friends for now. I must stay I’m enjoying Alex Penavega’s time on Nashville. She’s talented and I’d love to see her stay on for a little longer so this storyline can truly develop.

But for now it’s going to be great seeing Zoey’s face when she figures out everything going on. I’m sure that’s going to be a highlight of next week’s episode.

Deacon’s new girlfriend may have not been my favorite, but I am enjoying how honest and straightforward she is with Deacon. She tells him what he needs to hear and doesn’t beat around the bush—Deacon needs that since he tends to mope around a lot. He ends up performing his new song at Luke’s CMA nomination party and it was a hit! It did much better than Layla being a drunken mess.

I feel for Layla – she feels betrayed, hurt and unloved. Will completely deceived her into a union that was supposed to last a lifetime. Yet, I do believe Will when he says he does care for Layla even though he can’t love her. They’re the definition of “complicated” right now.

Deacon and Luke had to call the party short when they found out the party their kids threw was raided by the cops. Yep, Maddie in her teenage rebellion threw a major rager. So wrapped up in trying to fit in she forgot about her little sister and Daphne scared and surrounded by wild teenagers called the police.

She did call her dad, but Teddy was too busy having fun with Jeff Fordham and their lady friends. Except, Teddy didn’t realize that the lady friend Jeff set him up with was an escort!

Was it intentional? You tell me. Jeff just got the Mayor of Nashville tangled and actually having feelings for an escort—can you say scandalous? Something he can definitely use against Teddy in order to convince him to sign his daughters to Edgehill Records—the ultimate revenge attack on Rayna.

Teddy is too blinded by his loneliness to see that Jeff Fordham isn’t trustworthy. He found himself calling the escort girl since they actually connected.

The episode ended with Juliette telling everything to the press. She went straight to the point and the press was mindblown.

Nashville returns in two weeks with a CMA inspired episode.

Manipulation, chaos, scandals and fights are sure to ensue! Stay posted, November 12th.
