The previous episode of Stitchers set up for some valuable follow through this time around, with Camille trying to figure out what to do after she lost out on a promotion and Cameron trying to adjust to this new territory. Of course, it doesn’t help that now his relationship with Kirsten is getting in the way of their stitching. Cameron is just really not having the best week right now.
Knowing that something will probably get in the way of an immediate happily ever after for Cameron and Kirsten definitely didn’t prepare me for this. This is a pretty big strain for a new couple, especially one that just had ”the talk” so they could move further with their relationship. Going slower isn’t exactly keeping them apart but it’s already created some awkward moments and a fight.
I do think that they clearly aren’t fighting because they have to take things slower, it is more about the fact that they didn’t talk everything out yet. They expressed a need to define what their relationship actually is and where it is going, but maybe they didn’t actually work through the stuff from their past? There are underlying worries that one or the other might not be as invested so maybe this obstacle had to happen for them to figure out a few sore spots.
And honestly, Cameron felt so focused on the physical aspect of their relationship, which I understand after waiting so long, but really? Cameron just said himself that these emotional parts of a relationship are new for Kirsten, so even without the warning from Linus, they should probably take things slow. At points it felt like sex was all that Cameron was focused on and Kirsten was the one more aware of what it meant if they didn’t take things slow.
But in general, Cameron has been having a difficult time lately and him not getting a little handbook that explains all that his new job entails is probably at the top of the list. Cameron really is going through what I’m sure we are all worried about, which is getting a promotion or a new job and feeling like everyone will know that you don’t feel confident doing it. Although in his case, everyone really does know it now. And to be fair, he knew that this wasn’t a good fit for him regardless. Which is where Camille fits in, and I love her all the more for it.
Her acting out against Cameron taking over the job that she wanted gave me so much secondhand embarrassment for Cameron. As for Camille, I kind of loved her proving that she does a lot of things that are taken for granted. But as much as Camille might want the job, she can’t have it right now, so seeing her reach some middle ground with Cameron and trying not to dwell on the negative was important too.
Sidenote: with Maggie getting a promotion, does that mean we won’t see her at all? Even one episode without her felt a little less fun, Fisher may have been there but Maggie’s absence was definitely present. This isn’t me saying that I wouldn’t be onboard with more Fisher though because him interrogating with Camille really said it all.
Now, Camille’s date with Amanda was once again the best thing to ever happen to me. It was a nice couple moment that we got a preview of and it was just a natural addition to the many other couples within the show, something I appreciated a lot. Camille and Amanda are clicking and my one hope for future episodes is to see them interact with the other couples on the show. Or even having Amanda hang out with Camille’s friends as a way to integrate her into the group as well because I’m getting greedy with this wonderful couple.

If any couple deserve a little happiness while Cameron/Kirsten are struggling to figure out where to go from here, I’m all for it being Camille and Amanda.
Last but not least, the case this week was actually one of my favorites. This was a great example of them focusing more on a case that was hilarious and entertaining enough to remind me why Stitchers is successful as a procedural. Having love dolls pop up as the plot twist was not only creative, but unexpectedly perfect.
Based off the trailer for next week’s episode, the fun isn’t forever because they will be back to serious and high-paced cases. That’s why having something a bit more silly like this murder that involved a love doll brings an even tone for the show. Things aren’t always as risky or serious, cases are also weird and cool. Plus the group always finds a way to make these mysterious discoveries more interesting because of the chemistry they all share while figuring it all out.
Overall, Stitchers successfully transitioned to more follow through, which will continue to haunt the characters moving forward this season. It also managed to accomplish a fun break in between high intensity plots, reminding the audience why the show is so great to experience.
