Wynonna Earp 2×05 Review: “Let’s Pretend We’re Strangers”

Mictian’s hold on Wynonna was short lived. Mictian was good for the show because you got to see some of the characters act other than themselves, but Mictian’s decisions didn’t make sense. It’s a demon that likes to spread and become a legion, but it didn’t do any of that. In stayed in Wynonna and didn’t attempt to jump into anyone else when she got caught. It didn’t even attempt to spread itself to anyone else in any other manner. Let’s not forget that it wanted to permanently be bonded to Waverly, but it could’ve still been killed even if the plan succeeded.

After talking about Mictian, we have to discuss Lucado. This episode was a weird one for her. At first she completely kicked Dolls’ butt. I mean, he didn’t seem to have a chance. Then she decided to work with him to cure Wynonna even though she hated Dolls so much, which didn’t seem to make sense. She’s also dead because her head exploded. That part felt really forced because they said that she wasn’t strong enough to hold Mictian, but that random guy in the beginning did just fine holding the demon. Also, there was no prior mention of anyone’s head exploding if they couldn’t hold the demon, so her death felt random.

A thing about the heroes of this show is that they know one another. They were all able to pick up on whenever Waverly or Wynonna were either possessed or not. It shows that they pay attention to one another. For example, when Doc said he knows that Wynonna drinks her coffee black.

A new addition to the show is The Order. The group of demon killer firefighters that claim to have been around a long time helping keep the Ghost River Triangle safe. There needs to be proof of this in the upcoming episodes because if that were true then how come Wynonna’s the only one who has been taking out demons in the town. If the show doesn’t elaborate then these characters will make no sense. Hopefully they’ll at least help out in what’s to come. They have an interest in the plate, so we’ll see if they know how to use it for something. We also know that Juan Carlo has been helping them out, but how much has he helped them?

Black Badge has disappeared! It’s unclear whether they purposefully left or if something happened to them. It’s been heavily implied that the two demons in the Gardeners came from the Black Badge facility, but are they the cause of the disappearance, or is there another reason?

Lastly, we have to talk about Wynonna’s pregnancy. Personally I feel like it’s an unneeded element of the show right now. The assumption is that it’s Doc’s baby, but even if it is, what does that add to the season? We’ll see where this goes, but I’m not too hopeful about it.

Wynonna Earp airs Fridays at 10/9c on Syfy.
