Jodie Whittaker Announced As New Doctor Who

The Time Lords have spoken, and the world will soon see a woman with her very own Sonic Screwdriver.

BBC One broke the news after broadcasting a sneak peek at the next season of Doctor Who, revealing that actress Jodie Whittaker will be taking over for Peter Capaldi to become the 13th Doctor. The 35-year-old actress will be the first female to play the iconic character in the show’s decades-long history, and will step in once Capaldi takes his final bow in the show’s upcoming Christmas special.

Ms. Whittaker comes to the show with a packed resume. Her credits include the beloved British sci-fi/comedy Attack the Block along with dramas, including Black Sea with Jude Law and romcoms such as One Day with Anne Hathaway. Her most recent credit of note has been on ITV’s Broadchurch, which conveniently stars former Doctor Who star David Tennant and Olivia Colman, who also guest starred on Matt Smith’s inaugural episode as the Doctor in 2010’s “The Eleventh Hour.”
