Dark Matter 3×09 Review: “Isn’t That A Paradox?”

The crew head back to Earth during the 21st century. More specifically, to Wisconsin. They had some funny moments while trying to complete a mission in a time period they weren’t used to. Six riding a little kid’s bike. The Android ruining a season finale before it was out. Three almost blowing their cover. Five telling Jake that his cousin might be the love that he’s looking for. All great moments, but the show could’ve delved a little more into moments where the crew really had no idea how to adjust to a time 600 years before them.

The biggest issue with this episode was that there was no real sense of danger. Yes, they did almost get found out by the feds, but as for the paradox stuff, it didn’t feel real. Also, The Android kept saying that they might be stuck in that time for awhile, but they seemed to solve their problem in a day or two. The situation could’ve seemed more dire if they had stretched out their time in the past into one more episode. There was also the issue that they didn’t cloak The Marauder, and Six easily got caught by the cops even though he’s been trained by The Galactic Authority.

A nice twist to the situation was that they ended up running into one of the scientists that created The Blink Drive. He knew of its dangers and decided to hide himself in the past and keep it safe. Talk about a sacrifice. He had to keep a low profile and make sure that he didn’t mess with the timeline.

A more interesting piece of information is that the crew’s interactions with Jake lead him to become a science fiction author, which in turn lead his great granddaughter to create Faster Than Light travel. Whether it was a weird coincidence or destiny remains to be seen, but they might have inadvertently created an advancement in space travel.

Neiman has teamed up with Portia and Marcus, and now he wants to team up with Ryo. That means that a lot of trouble is coming their way. They still have the other four assassins that are supposed to be after them, so who knows what Ryo, Neiman and the doppelgangers are planning.

The Android’s lover has called her up saying that he needs help. What trouble can he possibly be in? Will she get a new chip?

Dark Matter airs Fridays at 9/8c on Syfy.
