Wynonna Earp 2×08 Review: “No Future in the Past”

Wynonna’s vision quest revealed a lot of new information. Juan Carlo finally came through on giving the team (and us) some valuable information. Too bad it cost him his life, but we’ll get to that later.

The biggest thing to come out of this vision was Bobo’s backstory. Bobo was a great villain in season one because he wasn’t completely evil. He had his own set of rules and only did things for a reason. It turns out that he got the bad end of a curse and got sent to hell. Formerly known as Robert, Bobo use to be a good man. A shy man, but a decent one. He was essentially Wyatt’s left hand man, except Robert could never live up to the friendship that Wyatt had with Doc. Bobo even took a bullet for Wyatt, but unfortunately a curse was placed on Wyatt that would cause Robert to go to hell. Even though Bobo left Doc in the well it was kind of hard to be mad at him knowing that he was unnessarily going to Hell. He deserved better. The good things that came out of his death was that Wynonna told Bobo that she was her guardian angel and that her name was Waverly, which explains why he would never hurt her. He also rang the bell for Wynonna, which somehow alerted the firefighters. Thanks to Wynonna dying he’s returned, but the question is whose side will he be on.

Juan Carlo is dead, but it turns out that he was a not an angel like I suspected. He was an immortal man like Doc, but he was cursed with not being able to tell the truth, which is why he would always lead the good guys in the right direction, but never tell them what they needed to know. Turns out that in the past he teamed up with Constance and Robert to seal The Widows away as well as Clootie’s husband. Those three are the reason why Purgatory have been safe from Clootie’s wrath. Juan Carlo has been a good guy since the past. Too bad he got partially eaten and had to be put out of his misery. The question is what the team will do without his random guidance.

Rosita tries to be friends with Waverly, and it seemed to be working until Nicole ruined the fun. Rosita’s past still lies in mystery. All we know is that she likes Doc and that he’s protecting her. She also now has to deal with Wynonna potentially being Doc’s baby momma. What’s good about her character is that she’s trying. She jumped right into the whole situation and tried to throw a baby shower for Wynonna. Again, it was working until Nicole messed everything up.

Nicole almost flip flops each episode with who she wants to be. One episode she’s fun loving and helping everyone out. Maybe she’s getting too drunk and being awkward. The next, she’s either keeping secrets or being mad at Waverly for something. It’s hard to enjoy her character when she upsets you every other episode.

More information was revealed about Waverly. When she was little, Willow made her run on the ice on purpose knowing that she’d fall through. At first, Waverly said that Wynonna had saved her from the ice, but it was later shown that Bobo is the one that saved her. He does consider her his guardian angel. Nicole also tried to hide the test results from her, and based on Nicole’s demeanor, it’s safe to say that she’s not an Earp. The question is whose child is she? Why did the Earps take her in? Is she part of a bigger plan, or is there another reason?
