Younger 4×07 Review: “Fever Pitch”

Liza can quite literally not stop dreaming about Charles’ love confession from last week. And how can we blame her? Dreamy Charles in a jealous fit confessed how he wishes THEY were together! Anybody else’s jaw still on the floor from that scene? Still trying to recover and so is Liza. And apparently, Charles too since he’s doing an excellent job at avoiding her at work. He skipped out on work and, as Diana pointed out, he didn’t even do that for Hurricane Sandy.

Someone else who is avoiding the office? Our girl Kelsey. She knows very well that she really messed up this time. The only right thing to do is to obviously take a mental health day. In this case, it’s used for hiding from your boss until you’re emotionally prepared to face the chaos you caused.

Liza, like the good friend she is, covers for her at Pitch Fest, where hundreds of writers get to pitch their books to publishers. Liza is hoping to find gold amidst the absurdity she’s heard for the majority of the day. She finally does find a diamond in the rough in a woman who left her own ambitions to the side to raise her kids, living in the successful shadow of her husband while living a glamorous life in the Upper East Side. Liza is excited at the potential of finding the next book that could be Imperial’s savior.

Meanwhile, Kelsey is unbothered in Upstate New York with Lauren… and Josh. Smoking and unwinding, lounging by the water, she tells Liza she’s disconnecting and will read the chapters once she gets back to the city. However, she does not tell Liza that Josh is with them on the trip. A fact that Lauren points out very clearly. Never afraid to call things how she sees them, she can tell that Kelsey is falling in love with Josh.

Kelsey is quick to deny it. However, things prove to be different by the end of the episode. As Josh and Kelsey mope about their inability to trust the right people they bond over their common failures. Two seconds later they end up locking lips! That escalated quickly! But Kelsey is just as quick to point out that they can’t do this. I breathed a sigh of relief when she walked away and did the right thing, but I’m also wondering how this will really play out since they are roommates. How do you squash the tension the size of an apartment in New York?

In the city, it’s a late night in the office for Liza and Charles. The tension between these two is just as high until Liza decides to confront Charles once and for all. Just like that, the tension is erased and turns into sparks! Liza and Charles start hooking up until they’re brutally interrupted by the night janitor. Darn it! It was only the moment Charles had been waiting forever for! He didn’t want to talk with Liza, he wanted action, which cut Liza off from confessing her secret. Since the heat of the moment is broken, Liza tells Charles about the potential book that could help Imperial and he realizes this book is being written by his ex-wife. What’s her actual end goal with this stunt? I think we can only wait and find out!

Liza requested more chapters and Charles apologizes for dragging her into this mess. He also expresses his continued deep interest in her and may I say that vulnerable, lovey Charles is my favorite. It seemed like this episode was the tipping point for the rest of this season. What lays ahead will surely be scandalous, thrilling and even more jaw-dropping.

So, leave your comments below and let us know how you feel! Kelsey and Josh, can that be a real thing? (I would be here for it if it weren’t for the Liza history on both parties.) #TeamCharles or #TeamJosh? Where do we all even stand at this point?
