NYCC 2017: 6 Things We Learned From the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Panel

The entire cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. joined Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV, onstage for a panel at New York Comic Con this weekend. The crowd went wild upon seeing them and Clark Gregg thanked the fans for their loyalty, saying he felt part of the reason why the Marvel Cinematic Universe spin-off show even got to its fifth season was because of them and they were all grateful for the love.

Among many of the panel’s highlights included Iain de Caestecker kissing Jeph Loeb after someone joked that he and Elizabeth Henstridge enjoy kissing each other and that Iain practices on several people while on set. Clark Gregg and Loeb offered some kind advice to anyone hoping to get into acting or writing someday, while it was discovered that there isn’t a single thing that Ming-Na Wen can’t turn into an innuendo, which are sometimes called “Mingisms.”

Aside from some of the fun the cast had during the panel, here are six things we learned about season five of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from the cast and a little bit from the first twenty minutes the season premiere:

  1. Season five will have a special two-hour premiere on Friday, December 1st.
  2. The show picks up immediately after season four ends. We’ll get to see what happens in the diner from the perspective of the assailants who kidnapped the team and sent them to space.
  3. Fitz and Simmons’ relationship won’t be smooth sailing, at least at the start of the season. Henstridge and Caestecker paused awkwardly when someone called FitzSimmons “relationship goals” because that won’t be the case in early season five. Based on the answer, it seems they’ll be dealing with the aftermath of the Framework and Aida and Fitz’s relationship before they can move forward.
  4. Everyone on the team ends up in space except for Fitz.
  5. There’s a new mystery character in the season five premiere and we don’t see his face until the end of the first twenty minutes.
  6. Someone in the premiere calls himself a “believer” and it doesn’t take long for the team to find out why they’re in space.
