With the show ending in just a few weeks, I decided to look back on Gossip Girl and name my favorite moments or things about the show. If there’s one thing that Gossip Girl doesn’t get wrong, it’s parties. Every episode features a party of some sort where characters are forced together and the dramatics begin. It’s an essential part of the Gossip Girl formula.
Thinking back, I decided to list my top 10 favorite parties from Gossip Girl. I’m taking into account 1. The actual party (i.e. décor, fashion, music etc.), 2. What happens at the party, and most importantly 3. How memorable the party is. When you have a show that features a different party every week, well, the most memorable ones are usually the best ones.
Without further ado, let’s revisit some GG’s swankiest soirees (in chronological order).
Kiss on the Lips Party(Season 1, Episode 1) – The first Gossip Girl party has to make the list! The first episode made it quite clear how important parties and events are to the Upper East Siders. It’s lavish, exclusive and the perfect setting to throw down some drama. Compared to future parties, this isn’t the most extravagant one, but being the first makes it memorable.
Masquerade Ball (Season 1, Episode 6) – If I had to rank them, the first Masquerade ball would top the list. This was the first over-the-top and all-out party. When I think of a Gossip Girl party, I think of this one. The décor, tone and fashion were astonishing. Being a masquerade, it had an aura of mystery going on, leading to mistaken identities and other mishaps. It was perfect setting for the Upper East Siders to ignite some drama.
Debutante Ball (Season 1, Episode 10) – What is the UES without a debutante ball? Serena and Blair make their debut into society amidst drama and lovely gowns. This rite of passage was unforgettable mainly for the hijinks going on. Serena’s introduction was funny and a little scandalous. Blair was ignoring Chuck’s taunts and intent to do the deed with her escort, Nate. And how can you forget Serena’s gold Nina dress, especially as Dan whisks her away?
The White Party (Season 2, Episode 1) – The Season 2 premiere pops out in my memory because we see our favorite characters in a different setting: the Hamptons. It was a refreshing way to start the new season, and “The White Party” went accordingly with that notion. An end-of-summer celebration, The White Party, welcomed all of Hamptons’ most prestigious. It was flowing and dreamy, which nicely juxtaposed the stories that were happening all the while.
The Opera (Season 2, Episode 16) – Not exactly a party, but when you have a bunch of people all dressed in one building, I say it counts. This party was very eventful, especially for Lily and Chuck, they finally got the chance to exact revenge on the notorious Uncle Jack. In turn, he attacks Lily, and Chuck saves the day. Plus, this all happened at the Opera! How appropriate!

Prom/80s Party (Season 2, Episode 24) – Many were upset that the much anticipated Prom episode was intercut with Lily’s 80’s flashback. At the time, I loved it, and when I watched it the other day, I can now understand some complaints. But still… it’s unforgettable. No doubt we remember the 80s party, it’s distinct enough. The prom itself felt very much like the Kiss on the Lips party. Serena wore an underwhelming dress. However, Blair stole the show with her gorgeous Marchesa gown and her fairy tale night, all thanks to Chuck. Frankly, that’s what made prom so special, everything that Chuck secretly did to make it Blair’s perfect night.
The Speakeasy (Season 3, Episode 7) – A through-and-through 1920’s Speakeasy (even without a real liquor license), Chuck throws what is considered “the party of the year” at the new club he’s opening. All the characters were dressed in 1920’s glamour, even though the party didn’t last long, enough drama went around stirring things up.
Thanksgiving (Season 3, Episode 11) – Again this is more of a dinner party, but party nonetheless! While the table and everyone looked very seasonal, it was the drama that went down that makes this one of the Gossip Girl’s greatest moments. It was orchestrated so perfectly; I totally remember tweeting right after: “I just watched the greatest Gossip Girl scene ever.”
The Saints and Sinners Party (Season 4, Episode 9) – The other masquerade party makes the list! Masquerades really work well with the show’s storylines, so I’m not surprised they did another one in Season 4. I don’t think it’s as good as the first one, but it’s definitely notable. And who can forget that Chuck and Blair moment behind stage?

Chuck and Blair Crash a Bar Mitzvah Party (Season 4 finale) – The last on the list! I know you’re thinking, “what about Season 5 or even 6?” I do think they had some good parties, but my last absolutely favorite one was at the end of Season 4. When Chuck and Blair crash that bar mitzvah, it was one of the most wonderful and emotional scenes of that season. They were finally having their moment together. It was lighthearted, genuine and loving. Despite it being short-lived, it made an impression. I sincerely hope we get another party like that by the end of the season.
