However, sometimes a price must be paid when good things happen. The news of The Walking Dead‘s renewal came with a separate announcement that Glen Mazzara is stepping down as the show-runner of The Walking Dead after the end of the current season.
This isn’t the first time that a show-runner has stepped down. The show’s original show-runner, Frank Darabont, was fired after season two of the show due to increasing tension between him and AMC executives. as well as AMC lowering the budget for The Walking Dead. Glen Mazzara stepped up after that and has run the show since.
Mazzara and AMC are putting up a united front to dispel rumors of another dramatic firing . Mazzara and AMC released a joint statement announcing “The two parties have mutually decided to part ways. Glen guided the series creatively for Seasons 2 and 3. AMC is grateful for his hard work.We are both proud of our shared success,” they also admitted that everything wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows with the two parties. “Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on Season 3B [the second half of the third season] as show-runner and executive producer.”
No word yet on who will be replacing Mazzara as show-runner to the hit TV show but whoever takes the role will have some big shoes to fill. Season 3 has so far been the best season yet, and fans will expect season 4 to be as good or even better.
