TV news: MTV cancels ‘Skins’

About time!
After so many people complained about the TV show after its first episode, most advertisers found themselves pulling out their products commercials from the show’s TV slot mainly because of its content. To be honest, I am a firm believer that remakes should not exist whether in movies or television, they are just bound to flop eventually. Hence, when I heard about ‘Skins’ being aired in the US, I already knew people wouldn’t like it. ‘Skins’ UK version I have seen (1st and 2nd series I still need to catch up!), and I love it. The characters, the dialogue, it all fits, meanwhile the US version was lacking UK’s cleverness, as well as MTV bleeping when the teenagers cursed did not help AT all.

I saw the first episode and was very dissapointed, not only that, if you’re doing a remake at least try to keep some of the original characters you know? But no, there were some new characters introduced that had no business to do there, as well as names were changed. After that, my decision was made: I was not going to keep on watching ‘Skins’ on MTV.

We must keep in mind that America’s viewers are bound to be more conservative, while viewers in the UK tend to be more liberal. I have seen other British TV series that contain these themes of sex, drugs, alcohol, etc and they are perfectly normal and very enjoyable. One example is ‘Misfits’, which is one of my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE TV series and I know that the day someone decides to do a remake of it in the US not only will I cry, but I will boycott it. Keep in mind, both ‘Misfits’ and ‘Skins’ are BAFTA winning series, so that tells you something.

Are you surprised that MTV cancelled ‘Skins’? Did anyone even follow the series? Leave a comment with your thoughts!
