10 Actors We’d Like To See As The Doctor

A few months ago it was announced that Matt Smith would not be returning to the role of the Doctor in BBC’s iconic show Doctor Who. Since then it has been a rabid frenzy on fan-forums with fans trying to decide who should play the 12th Doctor. Well all that frenzy will die down soon, as it was announced that on Sunday, August 4th BBC will announce who will be the new Doctor during a live half-hour special on their network. We have zero clue who the 12th Doctor will be but that didn’t stop us from making a quick, little list of people we’d like to see take on the role. It is more than likely that none of these fine people is the new doctor, but hey, half the fun is in the guessing.

Rory Kinnear

This actor has had a strong career in supporting roles. You name it and he’s probably been in it, although you may not have noticed him. He has an under-appreciated talent  and his commitment to his work makes him deserving to take the title role of The Doctor.

Ben Whishaw

Ben Whishaw is an incredible talent who had an amazing 2012 with the release of BBC’s mini-series The Hollow Crown and last fall’s blockbuster Skyfall. He’s a fine actor who could bring a new take on the Doctor

Richard Ayoade

He’s a talented actor/comedian/writer/director. He’s juggling so many things on his plate, why not add being a Time Lord on top of it?  His unique brand of comedy would create a fresh new look for the Doctor.

Anthony Head

Famous for playing Rupert Giles on the cult-hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Uther Pendragon on BBC’s Merlin, Anthony Head already has a devoted fan-base. He’s proven time and time again that he has the acting chops to take the role. Him being older than the current companion would hearken back to the old days of classic Who. Back to when the Doctor and companion had a more mentor-like relationship then they do now.

Harry Lloyd

Harry Lloyd is a skilled chameleon, able to transform himself into whatever the role requires of him. He’s played the strange, the weird and the downright mad. If Moffat ever decides to take the Doctor on a darker path, Harry Lloyd is the man for the job.

Ruth Negga

C’mon, allow the ladies to join in on the fun. Personally, a female doctor would bring an amazing spin on the classic series. We’ve had male and female companions, why not bring in a female Doctor? Ruth Negga is an accomplished and talented actress who would do the role justice. Bonus (other women who’d rock as the Doctor):  Emma Watson and Juno Temple

Richard Madden

Another Game of Thrones alum joins our list. Seeing that he is now out of a job until Cinderella starts filming, what better place to be than our list? Though he may be more of a long-shot than others on this list, he’s proven that he has the skill to take a leading role.

Matthew Lewis

From Gryffindor to Gallifreyan, Matthew Lewis stole our hearts as bumbling hero, Neville Longbottom. He’s stared in a few things here and there since graduating Hogwarts, but hasn’t hit it big yet. He missed out on the chance to be the chosen one, but being The Doctor would be a lovely consolation prize.

Simon Pegg

Most likely one of the biggest fan-boys in the game. He’s no stranger to Doctor Who or its fandom. Simon Pegg would give the role his all and try to stay true to the character while bringing in some of his own side-splitting comedy.

Idris Elba

Can you hear the people sing? It is the song of Idris Elba. All over the internet people are readily singing his praises, and why shouldn’t they be? He’s had an amazing summer thanks to the return of BBC’s Luther and the smash-hit, Pacific Rim. From the moment Matt Smith announced he would not be returning to Doctor Who fans have been clamoring for Idris Elba to take the role. Of course, they’ve also been clamoring for him to become the next James Bond. Which is okay with us because the world needs more Idris Elba.
