We’re sorry, Ravenswood fans. Just this week, ABC Family has announced their decision to pull the plug on the Pretty Little Liars spin-off after just one short season.
Ravenswood was about five teenagers finding themselves linked with one another thanks to a curse which states that five teenagers must die thanks to a pact completed many years ago in order to protect the town. It starred Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) from PLL as he wanders into Ravenswood and finds that because of his ancestors he is unfortunately tied into this curse escaping death just by a short hair.
The TV show explores supernatural elements with spirits, psychic powers and demons coming to life to collect these teenagers’ souls. If you watched it late at night, it would at least leave you spooked before going to bed.
The series premiered this past October, after PLL’s Halloween episode and first had achieved 2.1 million total viewers. Since the same executive producers of the ABC Family hit TV show PLL created this spin-off, the network and many others believed that Ravenswood would be another successful hit and had been given a 10 episode run.
However, it didn’t seem to gain as many steady loyal followers as its parent show. The network paired it on its own on Tuesdays. Then, when PLL returned for its winter premiere, they placed Ravenswood in the slot right after PLL hoping that many of that audience would continue tuning in. Unfortunately, its average rating was about a million viewers each week.
There could be a silver lining to all this. With Ravenswood being cancelled, this could mean that Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) could be returning to Rosewood, running into the arms of Hannah (Ashley Benson). It could very well be that tearing this couple apart in order to create the spin- off was its own demise. Many “Haleb” fans were crushed at the break-up and constantly tweeted executive producer Marlene King for an explanation as to what would happen in the future. Hannah even visited Caleb in Ravenswood in its season finale episode where he saves her from an untimely death, opening a door for their relationship to bloom once again. After all, the love those two have for each other is undeniable.
So far, nothing has been confirmed on Caleb’s return.
