The Strain Season 2 Character Guide
Having just re-watched the season one finale of The Strain on Hulu before jumping into season two, I remembered one of the most important things about the show: how many characters there are. Granted, as a show of the horror genre, it’s easy to presume they’re there so you can expect some of that cast to be killed off, but some to continue on as Vampires, slaves to The Master. Here, we’ll make a brief dossier of all the main characters you can expect to see return for season two, or, if you’re just jumping into the series, this is the bullet points of the cast for you convenience.

Dr. Ephraim Goodweather
Once a lead asset of the Center for Disease Control, Eph is a talented epidemiologist who turned alcoholic, and during the horrific events in New York, was entangled in trying to earn custody of his son Zack from his ex-wife.
Throughout season one, Eph worked his way from barely able to believe vampires were overtaking the city, to being a skilled combatant of them, but when the events of the finale transpire, all hope seems lost in getting the city evacuated and taking down The Master. He falls back on the demon in the bottle last we’ve seen him.
Survivability: Given he’s the lead, the likelihood of his being turned into a vampire is low, if it wasn’t for my insistence that the show do something with that awful wig on his head by turning him into a vamp. No, I’m not giving up on that. It’s too hilarious.
Professor Abraham Setrakian
A polish man that has spent his twilight years hunting the vampires, or Strigoi as his grandmother used to tell him, after he spent his young adult life held captive by Eichorst during the Holocaust, and bargained life with building the coffin which would later serve as resting place for The Master. By season two, we find him in company of a trustworthy crew ready to be trained, but all hope lost in knowing how to eliminate the vampire plague and The Master. He is in search for answers and will fight to destroy the Strigoi with every last breath in him.

Survivability: I’m sure it won’t be long before this wise one goes “kenobi” to have his deed carried out by Eph and co., though when that could be I haven’t the slightest clue.
Nora Martinez
Nora, an equally talented doctor as Eph was, and an off and on “fling” with him as well, had spent most of the first season caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s. When her dear mom is turned into a Strigoi, the last thing anyone would want, she begins to feel hopeless, but also realizes in that moment that there is little more to fight for than to simply live another day and make sure as many as you can will to continue to survive, do so.
Survivability: I think Nora still has a lot of growing to do before we see her at serious risk of being iced.

Vasiliy Fet
Fet is a Ukrainian man with the most wit and resources Setrakian’s resistance may have, with a career in extermination, and schooling in architecture. He knows New York City like the back of his hand, and he has all the tools needed for wiping out vermin.
Survivability: He damn well better not die, he’s the only comic relief on the entire show, and Durand brings the most charisma to the main cast.

Augustin ‘Gus’ Elizalde
Gus is rough around the edges due to the life of crime that he wanted to leave behind, but due to Eichorst’s manipulation, Gus simply couldn’t put it all behind him, eventually having to eliminate his own mother and brother turned into vampires.
Survivability: The end of the first season sees Gus being offered a deal with a cult of Vampire Ninjas, who speak for The Ancient Ones who seem to be having “a turf war,” as he called it, with The Master. An agent is needed in their employ for his humanity and immunity to sunlight, so it doesn’t seem Gus will be turned any time soon.
Zack Goodweather
Zack never cared for his parents being divorced, as he was always proud of his dad’s CDC work. It could turn sour, however, with his mom, Kelly, being turned against him, and Eph showing no resistance in eliminating her.
Survivability: Zack has a heart of gold, so as soon as he gets over his Hollywood-Patent White Boy Asthma attacks, he’s good to go.
Thomas Eichorst
The right hand of The Master, Eichorst is now seeking to command a new “generation” of Strigoi. He certainly has a bone to pick with Setrakian when he has the prime opportunity, since he still hates Jewish people from his days as a Nazi.
Survivability: Dead already; can’t become double dead soon enough.
Eldritch Palmer
This man is the epitome of “blinded by money.” Seeking anointment from The Master, Palmer won’t be spending a second season bedridden. His ultimate gain seems unclear still, but I wouldn’t doubt that he seeks to take ownership of the Master’s ability to cure pretty much anyone, and before knowing what he has, he’ll package it, and patent it, and slap it on a plastic lunchbox and sell it. You’re selling it. Well…
Survivability: He should be in Expendables Quatro.
