Let’s Dish: Young & Hungry (2×12) “Young & Back to Normal”

This review contains spoilers.

Wednesday means it’s time to dish about our favorite show on ABC Family, Young & Hungry. This week’s episode was quite interesting, to say the least. We had everything from Drag Show Bingo to Teeth. Yes, teeth. While we got to see Gabi and Josh’s friendship continue to take shape, Yolanda and Elliott played a more present role. Also, we get a glance at two new characters. Do Gabi and Josh have new love interests on the horizon? Do not hold your breath for too long, folks.

But the transition from ex-lovers to friends proves to be a more difficult segway than initially planned. As Gabi tries to set up Josh with her neighbor, things start to get a little weird. Sarah and Josh hit it off and things begin to look up. Not until Gabi finds a jar of teeth in Sarah’s purse that she begins to panic. I guess you can say that I watched this episode with clenched teeth (oh, puns). But on a serious note, how can you not be creeped out by someone who breaks into a morgue?! Guess Sarah is not after the living after all. Yay?

But Sarah is not the only one who is not quite normal. Keegan Allen guest stars in this week’s episode and plays Tyler. Looks like Keegan Allen is not only hiding secrets in Pretty Little Liars; his character here is not all he seems to be. Though his killer good looks snatches Gabi’s heart, there is a little something off about their chemistry.

It is not until Josh gets to talk to Tyler alone that he realizes that Tyler is homeless and lives in his car. I guess the grunge look Tyler is pulling off is not a fashion statement, but a lifestyle choice.

So what do good friends do? They warn each other before they make a serious dating mistake. But since Tyler is not ashamed of living in his car, it is not long until Gabi puts the pieces together and hears the truth.

From Gabi’s typical shenanigans, we find her hiding in Sarah’s closet, ready to expose her secret of teeth collecting. And before Josh and Sarah can have a romantic evening, Gabi bursts through the closet door with a jar full of teeth.

But take away the craziness from this episode, one thing’s for sure–Josh and Gabi have each other’s backs throughout the dates they will endure. And Josh makes a good point: they may not be dating other people at the same time, and that is okay. It is best post-break-up to be mature and remain friends, which is a rarity nowadays. Having each other’s backs at the end of the day is what matters, because though the romantic factor is not there, you still genuinely care about the other person. So despite what society may say, it is okay to be friends with your exes.

Overall, what I love about the show is that it brings comic relief to a lot of coming-of-age situations. Will every person we date be close to perfect? Most likely not. But that is why we have family and friends who will bring that to light and remind us what we deserve. Honestly, I do not have any insight or advice to share when it comes to finding someone who does teeth jewelry. You are on your own for that one.

Young & Hungry airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family.
