The 100 is one of the best shows on television that no one is watching (unless you’ve caught up on Netflix), and one of the most fun strictly-genre series in years. With a multitude of fantastic female characters, always changing locations and threats to the characters’ livelihoods and an intense pace that refuses to give the actions of the characters any free passes, the show is exciting, stressful and fun. With so many characters who’ve we’ve anticipated returning for what seems like nearly a year now, my fellow writers Yana, Ivanna and I have looked at the leads and wrote about what we’re hoping to see from them in the upcoming season. Season three premieres tonight on The CW at 9:00 EST.

Clarke
When we last saw Clarke, she was leaving her people and heading for the unknown. This season we know that she has been on her own for three months and is basically out of it. I would really love to see her reunite with her people this season, even though her story might be headed more into the Grounders’ world. Clarke was separated from her people in a more emotional sense last season, and it definitely looks like this season it will be an actual physical separation. Aside from wanting Clarke with her people, I would also love to see Clarke come to terms with herself. Her view of herself is very negative, and it only seems to be getting worse but maybe this season, we will get to see her come to the realization that she isn’t a monster. She did what she had to do to save her people, this unfortunately included the Mount Weather deaths, but it was still something that had to happen. If it wasn’t for Clarke, Bellamy and Monty, the deaths would have been much greater. Season 3 would be a wonderful platform for Clarke to forgive herself, something that will not come easy for sure. –Yana
I’m very simply hoping for her complexity to stay in place with the discrepancy of her being both a healer by nature but also a killer by necessity. After the events that caused her to leave behind Camp Jaha and her people in season two, it’s not too far-fetched to imagine that the Clarke we see at the start of this year will be more feral than the one we remember and hopefully just as interesting. – Allyson
To be honest, Clarke sort of has begun to annoy me. I understand her isolation after all the hard choices she’s had to make, but she needs to stop with the self-deprecation. The only thing that excites me about Clarke’s departure from the camp is that she will probably introduce us to another community of people, which is always fun! But besides that, I just wish she would give herself some slack. – Ivanna
Bellamy
In season three of The 100, I would love to see Bellamy take on more of a leadership role. He was a leader to the 100 in season one but then he traded that in when he traveled to Mount Weather undercover. This season he will finally be recognized for his role in keeping their people safe and with that might come more respect from the older Arkers. Besides seeing Bellamy struggle with this new hero title, it would be very refreshing to have him interact with the Arkers more. Relationships like Bellamy and Monty could be considered underrated, but now that they both share this weight on their shoulders hopefully they will spend more time with one another. Bellamy’s relationships with other people in general would be a great addition to this season. After having to watch his best friend and partner leave him to pick up the pieces of the decision that they both made, I think Bellamy would definitely need to surround himself with his friends. Clarke is the only person besides Octavia that we know Bellamy has always trusted, but people like Miller, Raven, Lincoln, Monty and maybe even Kane represent friendships that Bellamy could lean on this season. – Yana

After becoming the strongest developed character on the series, this odd thing happened where Bellamy was demoted to the sideline in season two, playing the support to Clarke rather than getting any motives or storylines of his own. Even his infiltration of Mount Weather never really moved beyond acting as Clarke’s inside man. I’d like to see Bellamy receive greater material as well as narratives that service his character instead of others. Despite being pushed from center stage, he remains one of the most intriguing characters on the show, and I hope that the show remembers this too. – Allyson
I love Bellamy, and my heart melted for him when he said goodbye to Clarke. WHY CAN’T THEY HAVE THEM GET TOGETHER ALREADY?! Unfortunately, that just seems farther from happening than ever before. I would like for Bellamy to find his true voice among so many leaders. He’s come a long way from season one, and I would like to see Kane take him seriously enough as an authority figure in Camp Jaha. I also hope he can nurse his broken heart in regards to Clarke. I have a feeling he will spend most of his time just looking for her though. – Ivanna
Monty
Monty has been a character that everyone has wanted to know more about, and season three will finally deliver on that. I think that between his mother supporting Pike and his reaction to what he did to the Mount Weather people, Monty will have a difficult time this season. Getting more of an insight into Monty’s past with his family and his friendship with Jasper is something I would love to see first of all. That is a side of him that is more connected to his past and would definitely interfere with the choices he has had to make now. The parallel between his past and the way he will struggle in the present would be an interesting approach to Monty’s characterization as a whole. In terms of interactions, I would like to see more Monty and Miller as well as Monty and Bellamy which the trailer hinted at already. – Yana

We know so little about Monty despite having been one of the focus characters since season one. If there was ever a time to change this, it would be in season three after Monty too was in the room with Bellamy and Clarke as the lever was pulled to kill the mountains inhabitants. Obviously there will be friction between him and his one time best bud Jasper but it’s about time that we get more storylines that don’t revolve around what he represents to another character. The show keeps broadening its world, so it might as well also take the time to flesh out the characters they already have. – Allyson
Jasper
With the loss of Maya at the end of the last season, it’s very possible that Jasper will be struggling this season. He seems to have directed most of his blame on the people who he believes killed his girlfriend, Monty and Clarke. But it would be worthwhile to see Jasper move towards forgiving the people around him. He may be in pain but pushing his people away and going off the deep end will definitely hurt him more in the long run. It will be a major contrast compared to the Arkers and their attempts to rebuild their community on the ground. As they try to branch out their world, Jasper could be falling off the deep end and crumbling before our very eyes. It is very possible that in season three the carefree Jasper that we have all grown to love will disappear into a self-destructive Jasper instead. My only hope is that he manages to overcome the PTSD and the anger before he does something drastic that truly changes him. – Yana
I mean, is it rude to ask for less? Jasper would work better as a character if the show wasn’t so actively trying to make the audience forget how much of a nuisance he was in season one when he called a female friend “low hanging fruit,” pined over Octavia and pretended to be a hero he wasn’t. I’d enjoy him as a character more if he still hung onto some of the more irksome personality traits but moved past them, slowly, in a similar way as Bellamy did in late season one. If anything, I hope that his anger at Bellamy, Clarke and Monty isn’t instantly forgotten and that the road to forgiveness is a slow one. This isn’t because I think it would be 100% justified but because it would fit with the character and bring an even greater sense of tension to the show. – Allyson

Raven
More screen time in general is definitely something I would love to see happen in season three for Raven. We have seen her save the characters we care about time and time again, but what about Raven? Her storylines lately have revolved around a love interest or she was pushed to the background a bit. I think that wanting Raven to have more screen time sums up my expectations for the new season. Her interacting with new characters and strengthening her friendships among the Sky people would be perfect. And since we know that her disability will get worse this season, it looks like she won’t spend much time outside of Arkadia, so her role inside should definitely increase. Especially with the threat of Alie, I think Raven and Monty combined would be a real driving force against this new villain in the show. – Yana
Oh my goodness, I just don’t want to see her hurt or tortured anymore. Ever since landing on Earth, it’s been one miserable event after the other. She’s shot at by Murphy and is left with a wound that will forever cause her pain. This is a wound–I might add–that was operated on while she was completely awake and aware. She’s tortured by Grounders who mistakenly think she killed one of their own, is caught in an explosion and then tortured and drilled for bone marrow in Mount Weather. So yes, I thinks he deserves a break and a little bit of happiness (literally anything at this point), and I’d be a happy fan. – Allyson
After almost being drilled to death by the Mountain People, I’m expecting some PTSD from Raven. I would love to see her learn how to cope with her feelings instead of constantly masking them, especially now that she has Wick. Emotionally, I would like to see much more growth from her this season. Her emotional challenges seem to have remained the same since season one. I also want to continue see her saving the day with all of the gadgets she creates. – Ivanna
Octavia
My thoughts on Octavia aren’t as strong due to never really connecting with the character, but if she could continue to just generally be a warrior badass, that would be great. The writing for her character has only gotten stronger and more confident with time (just as the character has), and if season three continues with that progress, she could easily become a surprise favorite of mine this year. I’m always in support of more nuanced female characters on genre shows, bring it on.- Allyson
I ship Octavia and Lincoln so hard; I pray that their relationship continues. I’m also looking forward to seeing her training with Indra progress. Octavia is one of the character whose growth I’ve loved the most. I figure she’ll have a great dilemma figuring out how to balance her loyalty between the sky people and the reapers, especially if Lincoln decides to stay with the Sky people (if he’s still banished by Indra).- Ivanna
