If you’re like me and my friends, you just can’t help but sing the classics from the original 1975 musical. Whether it’s “Time Warp” or “Sweet Transvestite,” the songs made the movie a cult classic, making our feelings all the more ambivalent after finding out there will be a reboot of the film.
That’s right, a TV movie set to come out in October of this year features a few original cast members, like Tim Curry and Richard O’Brien, who starred as Dr. Frank-N-Furter and Riff Raff respectively. While they don’t reprise their roles, we can expect Laverne Cox and Reeve Carney (Penny Dreadful) to stay true to the original and still add their own twist to the story.
In addition to Curry starring as the Criminologist–O’Brien takes a backseat to acting here; writing the screenplay instead– Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan star as Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, the heroine and hero of the story. Christina Milian (Be Cool) stars as Magenta and Staz Nair (Game of Thrones) is the Rocky Horror creation. Others include Adam Lambert playing other musician Meatloaf’s original part as Eddie, Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex) stars as Columbia, Jayne Eastwood (Hairspray) as the Butler, and Ben Vereen (Funny Lady) as Dr. Everett von Scott.
The two-hour film will be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and is set to come out around Halloween time. Jim Sharman, who directed and co-wrote the original film with O’Brien, was also rumored to help write parts of the reboot, meaning fans could very well follow a plot similar to one they knew and grew up with.
