MTV Announces Transgender Awareness Week Programming

look_different_logo_altMTV announced yesterday the programming they have scheduled in honor of Transgender Awareness Week. Programming that will highlight the stories and struggles of the transgender community and ways in which we can all be allies and messengers of love and acceptance.

MTV will air the documentary “Transformation,” a film that follows six transgender and gender nonconforming youth and their journeys in the face of adversity. The network will première the film at the Los Angeles LGBT Center on Tuesday November 15 followed by a panel discussion on Trans representation in the media. Some of the panelist will include actors Jen Richards (“Nashville”) and Elliot Fletcher (“The Fosters”), among others, with Katelyn Howes and Melissa Johnson, the filmmakers behind “Transformation.”

MTV will also air a new episode of “True Life: We Are Transitioning,” prior to the film, about how two couples navigate their relationships with partners that are transitioning. On their social platforms, collaborating with their “Look Different” campaign, MTV will share resources that champion the transgender community. On November 20, an online vigil will be held in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance in memory of the lives lost to anti-trans violence.
