A neighborhood watch has been started, but there’s no need for it. After a random sandwich shows up in the Huang’s mailbox Jessica decides to create a neighborhood watch. The process doesn’t go her way, but her ideas do end up saving the day.
What’s funny about her initial proposal was that the situation was a joke. A sandwich in your mailbox doesn’t constitute the need for a neighborhood watch, but everyone was on board which made the joke hilarious. It shows how boring the neighbor must be if some food can cause everyone to band together. Of course Jessica wasn’t invited to be on the committee because she’s not a team player, which is a fact of the serious, and it was nicely executed to use her known personality to explain why she wouldn’t be a good fit, but Jessica was determined. There was that funny montage of her learning to be considerate of other people’s ideas and dealing with someone taking credit for her work. What made those sequences even better was when she was still rejected despite her new attitude because the problem wasn’t actually an issue. No one else got “sandwiched”, and there was no need for the committee, let alone taking it further.
Of course Louis had to step in and steal Peter’s frog, which contained the house key and prompted the boy to go to the mall to buy a new one. Luckily for Peter, Jessica set up a camera anyways and thanks to it and Marvin’s confession the sandwich mystery was solved and they were able to find Peter, thanks to Jessica’s uncanny knack to find people in crowded places.
Speaking of Peter and his mom, Ann, the two of them had small parts, but man were they funny. Peter is an odd child, and he says things that are oddly unsettling. Ann kept talking about her divorce, and it was awkward, but funny. Also Ann’s actress played a character in Melrose Place, which is one of Jessica’s favorite shows. Hopefully the two of them will continue to be in the series.
Meanwhile, Eddie was trying to get his first kiss ever with Allison. It was all supposed to go down at the dance, but Trent messed everything up. First off, it kind of felt odd that this ended up being an Eddie and Trent adventure and not a group thing. They would all go to the dance together, so it felt odd that the others disappeared the rest of this episode. As for the adventure itself, it also felt odd. Trent’s anger towards the scouts was warranted since he didn’t want everyone to know he was one, but once they weren’t let into the dance it didn’t seem right that he wouldn’t reveal his knowledge of the scouts to get at least Eddie and Alison in. The blood oath thing was kind of funny, but also really odd. Unfortunately for Eddie his first kiss was technically with Trent, but Alison was still willing to kiss him anyways.
While these things were going on Emery was trying to find his grandma’s secret staff of money in the house. She told him he succeeded, but it turned out it was actually Evan’s money. Mystery not solved.
Evan spent this episode trying to get his twelve dollars back. The best part about this storyline is when he repeats his father’s words stating that, “if you let someone borrow money don’t expect to get it back.” A line that a lot of people can relate to. After some pestering he finally gets his money, and he even says he’ll get her change, eventually.
