“Black women aren’t bitter,” Issa Rae says to a class full of children. “They’re just tired of being expected to settle for less.”

HBO debuted our first look at Issa Rae’s new show Insecure. Rae, known for her popular web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl will star in the half-hour comedy series along with Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce and will explore the friendship between two black women and “their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations.” Given HBO’s current slate of great, albeit white, comedies, Insecure is a welcomed change for the premium cable network. We need more stories that chronicle the experiences of people from different cultural backgrounds, as well as ones centered on women and female friendships.

If this teaser is any indication, Insecure looks like a show worth tuning in to see this fall. It will likely air along Sarah Jessica Parker’s new comedy, Divorce, from Catastrophe creator Sharon Hogan.
