There’s been plenty of television news over the past few days, from Supergirl making her big move to The CW, to CBS picking up a gross amount of bro-friendly series while leaving Nancy Drew in the dust for being too “female focused.” Due to the upfronts, quite a lot of trailers have been released and while there’s plenty worth hitting pause for a few seconds in, there have also been quite a number that have genuinely caught my eye.
CBS might have been scratched off my list, but it looks like The CW and Fox will remain focuses for myself in the upcoming fall. Take a look at the trailers and synopsis below, and comment with what show you’re most anticipating in the upcoming year!
Shots Fired – Fox
FOX’s all-new show, SHOTS FIRED, is a compelling event series examining the dangerous aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small Southern town.
Gina Prince-Bythewood is pretty beloved around here and personally one of my favorite directors (do yourselves a favor and good watch Beyond the Lights now.) Teaming up with Love & Basketball star Sanaa Lathan, hopefully the director is able to imbue a new and compelling sense of life in a model that’s been done before.
The Mick – Fox
THE MICK follows Mackenzie a brash, two-bit hustler from Rhode Island who must assume guardianship of her sister’s three high-maintenance children.
Can we all agree that we’re simply excited Kaitlin Olsen has been given even more room to stretch her acting muscles – is this her breaking out moment? She’s been a star for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for such a long time now that it’s easy to forget she isn’t actually Dee Reynolds, despite some similarities in the The Mick trailer and her role as Sweet Dee. Pretty straight forward stuff but with the talent on board, it’s pretty difficult to not be excited.

Pitch – Fox
The all-new FOX Series, PITCH, tells the emotional story of GINNY BAKER who became the first woman to play Major League Baseball.
This was the one trailer that truly stuck out, waved its hands around, and hooked me in, and I will be dedicated to tracking this series and hoping that it lives up to its promise. I’m a goner for a good underdog story and the fact that this one is based on a true story with a woman as its protagonist only has struck my interest even further.

From the writer and directors of “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” this refreshingly honest and provocative new series stars Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia. Coming soon to NBC.
For viewers looking for a television series in the style of storytelling that Crazy Stupid Love, This is Us might be the fall pick. Starring Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia as well as a sprawling, interconnected ensemble cast, the show tackles themes of family, love, loss and finding yourself. I’ll admit that I had chills when the music started in.
Time After Time – ABC

Based on the novel and movie “Time After Time,” executive producer/writer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Scream” franchise, “Dawson’s Creek”) delivers a fantastical cat and mouse adventure through time when famed science fiction writer H.G. Wells is transported to modern day Manhattan in pursuit of Jack the Ripper. Once H.G. arrives in New York City, he finds a world he never thought possible and a young woman who captivates him.
Because how can you read that synopsis and not be a little curious? I’m not saying it’s going to be amazing, but it has potential to at least be some mind numbing fun.
