TV News: Fox’s ‘Gotham’ Releases First Trailer

Gotham

Well then. Color me intrigued.

Despite my love for all things super-hero I wasn’t quite ready to jump on the “Gotham” bandwagon for a number of reasons. My main cause of irritation was that out of all of the possible DC characters that we could have been given-we’re given Jim Gordon, a character we’ve already seen plenty of before.

Essentially I wanted my Catwoman series and my fruitful hopes were dashed.

But now the official trailer has hit the web after the news that Fox has picked it up for “at least” a 13 episode order and all things considered, it looks pretty awesome.

The show, if you didn’t already know, centers on the origin story behind Commissioner James Gordon and his rise in Gotham City in the years before Batman’s arrival all the while introducing us to familiar faces and names.

Starring Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon the show’s trailer packs in a lot of energy in only two minutes. We get to see shots of Penguin, a young Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, Poison Ivy and the Riddler who are all given moments of their own, hinting at a larger scope and deeper lore that the show will be digging into.

Airing this fall on Fox the show is certain to draw in a fan base who have long followed the on-goings of DC characters. Directed by Danny Cannon (Nikita and The Tomorrow People) the show promises a neo-noir edge, some interesting storylines and action-packed drama, the show will certainly be one to check in on.

I’m not ready to be on board in full-and the show definitely has plenty of ways in which it could go wrong-but for now the potential is huge and it at the very least looks like a show to have fun with.
