TV News: ‘The Get Down’ gets its first trailer

The Get Down Casting Shot

Baz Luhrmann is a bit of a mixed bag, and there’s a tendency to be in either the “love him” or “hate him” camps. I tend to veer towards the “love” side of things because even when I don’t love his films, I love the way they’re crafted. His style is uniform across everything he’s produced, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to his Netflix series The Get Down.

With actors such as Giancarlo Esposito and Dope breakout Shameik Moore, the show has a promising start, even with this barely under three minute teaser to go by.

However, take note future marketing teams–this is how a good trailer is made. I had chills by the end, so I can guarantee at the very least that I’ll be watching.

Check out the official synopsis and trailer below.

The Get Down focuses on 1970s New York — broken down and beaten up, violent, cash strapped — dying. Consigned to rubble, a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them — except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. From Bronx tenements, to the SoHo art scene; from CBGB to Studio 54 and even the glass towers of the just-built World Trade Center, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco — as told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city and the world…forever.
