Review: New Girl 4X01 – “The Last Wedding”

The gang is at it again as New Girl premiered tonight with season 4! Even though my favorite season is still season 1, I felt it best to come into season 4 with an open mind. For a while, the comedy was a bit off and I thought they lost the groove they had in season 1, but this episode caught me off guard. It was great and funny as ever. So let’s see how the first episode of season 4 begins.

Now with wedding season in high gear, who knows what shenanigans the characters will get into? The episode opens up with Schmidt and Jess talking about all of the weddings they have been to. Can we all agree that Jess’ hair in this scene is amazing!? She is looking stunning in this scene. Also, yes, Winston is still as weird as ever. There are snippets of him during this opener of Winston just being Winston. Additionally, Jess’ awkward yet funny metaphors make a presence in the opener as well.

With a strong opener, the episode is off to a great start.

The gang is at another wedding and we see the typical setup. The best man is saying a toast to the happy and married couple. While the speech is going on, the group toys with the idea of Jess hooking up with the best man. It looks like Jess accepts the challenge.

As the episode continues, Schmidt has a blast from the past when he sees Cece enter the room. Now, we all know he cannot stop thinking about her and has gone through hoops for her in previous seasons. So, watch tonight’s episode to see if he can resist himself from her and her beauty.

Also, why not continue with the surprises and make this a star-studded episode? Jessica Biel makes a guest appearance on the show and acts as Jess’ rival. I enjoyed her performance very much and thought she pulled off her character very well.

Zooey and Jessica complement each other quite well on screen and you can watch them battle it out in tonight’s episode.

Overall, I thought this episode started off the season on a strong note. It is honestly hard not to love this quirky gang. The comedic energy was there and I enjoyed it like I did with season 1. Everything fits right into place again and the chemistry is back. I have high hopes for the rest of the season.
