Terminator Genisys: Future War Review

Although the Terminator Genisys movie failed to live up to the greatness of The Terminator or Terminator 2: Judgement Day, it did have its moments. Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as the almost indestructible robot sent from the future provided a nostalgic feel-good factor, and seeing the characters return to the setting of the original film but in an alternative timeframe was also enjoyable. The film also brought the classic sci-fi franchise started by James Cameron in the 1980s to a modern audience, and the Terminator Genisys: Future War app will almost certainly appeal to these viewers.

In this age of strategy MMOs that often hark back to times of old, sci-fi lovers will be pleased to know that there is now one of these popular app games set in the future. Future War, a game from Plarium in cooperation with Skydance Media, takes place in the apocalyptic universe from the Terminator franchise that came about because of the war between the humans and Skynet. The game was announced in June last year, but was only released on May 18th 2017, making it virtually brand new. It is free to play but some aspects such as upgrades can be purchased for real money.

Players have the chance to try to survive in a world torn apart by war, where only the strongest prevail. They also have the choice of fighting alongside the rogue robots of Skynet or on the side of the rebels led by the infamous John Connor. Interestingly, this war has never been resolved in the films and nobody knows which side will end up on top. Choosing wisely could be imperative. The game also gives players from all over the world the opportunity to settle this great conflict once and for all.

The aim of the game is to go to war by constructing bases, training troops, and upgrading leaders. Players also have to collect resources which include energy, iridium, materials, ammo, and fuel. The unique in-game currency is technology points. Things such as building development happen in real time but technology points can be used to speed up processes.

The new game has already received rave reviews from users, with a score of 4.5 stars out of 5 in the Google Play Store. One user described it as “SO good and very well put together.” For Terminator lovers, the chance to actually battle for a brighter future and take down the human-hating robots is something that they have wished for since the debut film came out. There have been plenty of Terminator games in the past such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator 2: Judgement Day but few have ever managed to encapsulate the full-scale war in the way Plarium’s new mobile app does.

This game will not only appeal to fans of the Terminator franchise but also people who are already well-versed in the world of real-time MMOs that require similar objectives to be fulfilled. For those looking for a change from the more historically-based clan MMOs then Terminator Genisys: Future War is definitely worth a go.
