Welcome back to another installment of What the D-Pad, the weekly gaming podcast on Twitch.tv/TYFOfficial on every Wednesday or Thursday where we play a trending or topical game and discuss current news that I found on Twitter or Google News.

Travis already summarizes the details on yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, here.

We talk about those announcements at length. We also briefly touch upon the meeting about video game violence at the White House with little results, the details of the newest game in the Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure legacy, the Fortnight resolution with PlayStation cross-play servers, and much more!

The podcast is available in video form on Twitch and YouTube, and also in audio form on ApplePodcasts, Google Play and Soundcloud. News links will be provided below.

Anyway here’s the podcast…

Crazy headline making tech! Intel Optane 800P review on Gizmodo – SSD killer NAND based “flash” storage found in phones branded as “bleeding edge” storage expansions built like M.2 solid state drives. Biggest benchmark differences is 3 seconds faster in launching game files and 4k video, half the time in launching Windows 10 and rendering in adobe programs. Epic Games has convinced Sony to allow cross-platform play for Fortnite Battle Royale. The game will now be available to play with friends across PS4, Xbox One, PC and Mobile, and the inevitable Switch port. Random matchmaking only works on the specific console servers, but you can specifically connect to games to match-make with friends and decide later if you want to be obliterated with mouse and keyboard users. These issues with Sony have persisted ever since people wanted cross play game modes in Rocket League and Minecraft in the last several years.
