To roll with the program or against it?
Sony has rolled out a trio of 30-second trailers for Quantic Dream’s upcoming game, Detroit Become Human, each uncovering some more of the purposes and up-to-you arcs of three androids — Connor (Bryan Dechart), Kara (Valorie Curry) and Markus (Jesse Williams).
Let’s start with Kara. Her trailer picks up after, presumably, the most positive decision branch in the much-discussed domestic abuse sequence, with both her and Alice (the kid she’s tasked to look after) still alive and together. Maybe on the run as well? What’s worth noting here is Kara’s gray hair, implying that there will be a point where we can customize the character or — gasp! — she is becoming human i.e. aging.
The footage of Markus is an interesting one; it’s titled after the vigilante android but his “father,” the famous painter Carl Manfred (Lance Henriksen), is doing much of the talking.
It seems that Carl his responsible for Markus’ awakening, or the notion that he can outgrow his coding. This trailer is also the first time we get to see what’s under the skin (technically, the prototype trailer had shown us this, but it wasn’t running on the PS4 now, is it?).

Connor’s trailer doesn’t reveal anything new about him, but it continues to reinforce what is, personally, the game’s most delightful question. Since he’s programmed to locate the “deviants,” or the androids who have gained consciousness, it seems like Connor is the only character who has the possibility to become full-villain. And where are my 3rd Rock from the Sun fans at? The “Amanda” who’s imploring our police android to stay on mission is the show’s Nina — or Simbi Kali.

Thanks to this, we now know that Clancy Brown, whom we previously reported as one of the game’s new casting additions, is the “grizzled, alcoholic detective who hates androids” Lieutenant Hank Anderson.
As the end of the trailers highlighted, you can pre-order the game now and get a digital soundtrack plus a dynamic theme. Alternatively, push your wallet further, buy the Digital Deluxe Edition and play the PS4 version of Heavy Rain right after.
