New Kingdom Hearts 3 Trailer Packs Emotional Punch. We Need Baymax. Halp.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is almost upon us with its January 29, 2019 release date approaching fast and with that lead up comes a new trailer and the release of the box art. Most of the footage features the world and characters of Big Hero 6, but there are a few new scenes of other worlds and teases for the greater narrative at play.

For me, this trailer kicked me in the heart hard as familiar characters and locales returned. Sora’s nobody, Roxas, seems to be a big part of the story as Roxas’ friends Hayner, Pence, and Olette offer their help to Sora once again. There is also a small scene between Sora and Goofy on the island from the original game, the same island that Sora, Riku, and Kairi hung out together on. These small touches brought a swell of nostalgia and a reminder that we are so close to being able to play this game. I remember laying on my bed late at night watching the Playstation E3 conference in 2013 when Square Enix announced development had started and being so ecstatic that I couldn’t sleep. It has been a long time since then, and the wait has made me jaded to the reality of the game’s imminence, but this trailer has rejuvenated my excitement in a way I could never have imagined.

Watch the video below and be sure to leave your comments about where you think the story is headed and what new worlds you would like to see in addition to the ones that have been announced so far!
