Book News: David Levithan announces ‘Will Grayson, Will Grayson’ spin-off

will grayIs this the best news ever? OR IS THIS THE BEST NEWS EVER?!!!

David Levithan, one of my all-time favorite authors, announced today in an interview with EW.com that he has written a spin-off of one of my all-time favorite books, Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

HOLD ME CLOSER: The Tiny Cooper Story is the spin-off’s title and follows one of the main supporting characters from the novel written by both Levithan and John Green. Hold Me Closer is appropriately a musical-novel (or novel-musical) that will chronicle Tiny Cooper’s life since birth. When EW asked Levithan how expressive Tiny’s imagination will be in the musical, he said:

I can give away that the finale of the first act is a trio with Tiny, his lesbian babysitter, and the ghost of Oscar Wilde. That pretty much sums up where Tiny is coming from and by extension, where I’m coming from.

Honestly, that sounds like the greatest thing ever. (I would apologize for all the hyperbole in this news post, but come on, it’s TINY!) Levithan also talks more about Hold Me Closer and whether or not John Green had input in the novel. You can read the full interview here.

Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story will makes its debut in March 2015, in perfect time for the fifth anniversary of Will Grayson, Will Grayson’s release.

And in case you forgot…

“You may choose your song, but know this: Tiny. Cooper. Hates. Over. The. Rainbow.”

Tiny Cooper first captured our attention when he debuted in WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON, the 2010 YA novel co-written by THE FAULT IN OUR STARS author John Green and EVERY DAY author David Levithan. Will Grayson, Will Grayson tells the story of two boys with the same name whose worlds collide and intertwine.
