“Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle” trailer shows off a darker side of the classic story

Andy Serkis returns to the director’s chair with his latest project Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. The film is based on the classic story of The Jungle Book, but with a slightly darker tone this time around. The main character of Mowgli is played by Rohan Chand, best known for his role in the 2013 Jason Bateman film Bad Words. Serkis also lends his voice acting talents to the film along with such amazing talents as Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Rhys and Naomie Harris.

While 2016’sThe Jungle Book focused more on the Disney retelling of the original story, this Netflix film seems to focus on Mowgli’s human origins and finding his place between civilization and nature. There are glimpses of humor and light in this trailer, but the majority of it shows an epic and exciting adventure with impressive visual effects. As far as Netflix films go, this looks extremely theatrical and big for the small screen.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle launches on Netflix and in select theaters on December 7th.
