It’s safe to say fans of The Cab have been ready for new music from them for a very long time.
Just last week, one of the founding members of the band, Alex Marshall, announced that he had parted ways with the band. Shortly after the heartbreaking news, they released their new EP Lock Me Up, sans Marshall. The EP got all the way to the #2 spot on the iTunes Pop Chart and eventually ended up in the Top 5 iTunes Music Chart! (BIG CONGRATS!)
This is also the first thing we hear after they’ve been signed to their new label Republic Records. I won’t go into full review, but I will say that it’s not like previous music they’ve released.
There has definitely been more of a pop vibe and some songs sound a bit familiar. For example, Moon sounds a little like a track Cobra Starship would’ve put out a few years ago when the airwaves were ruled by Fueled by Ramen artists. Their most original tracks, in my opinion, are Lock Me Up and Stand Up. While songs like Numbers and These are the Lies have somewhat of a Justin Timberlake feel to them. Not that that’s a bad thing by any means; it just doesn’t sound like the band that put out Whisper War and Symphony Soldier.
There are tidbits that resound throughout the EP that do remind us of who we’re listening to. Their lyrics are still on point and Alex DeLeon’s voice is still silky smooth. It’s different, but not at all bad. There are only five tracks on the EP, but nonetheless the fans are happy to have new music from this incredibly talented group of guys. As a member of their VERY dedicated fanbase (we just refuse to quit or lose faith in these boys), I can say, with certainty, that we’re so happy the boys are back. With that said, check out the new lyric video for their first single off their EP Lock Me Up below! The EP can be purchased on iTunes.
