Brittany Menjivar is a twenty-year-old music enthusiast who listens to everything from Britpop to '80s new wave to Warped Tour bands. She is passionate about many things in life, including (but not limited to) S. E. Hinton novels, the various projects of Damon Albarn, blue raspberry ICEEs, and thought-provoking films. Brittany loves spreading the word about interesting ideas, which is why she started writing for TYF. She also loves metaphors and similes, which explains why she enjoys reviewing music so much. In addition to being a member of the TYF staff, Brittany is a poet who has been published in The Noisy Island, Crashtest, YARN, and Canvas. On top of that, she's studying English and Film at Yale University, so her favorite song lyric is "Bulldog, bulldog, bow wow wow." If you're reading this, she hopes your day is full of good art and good vibes.

Review: Twenty One Pilots – “Trench”

Before 2015, Twenty One Pilots were a fun musical oddity with a niche, but ardent fanbase, best known for a ukulele ditty about aging parents. After they released Blurryface—and with it, singles “Stressed Out,” “Ride,” and “Heathens” (from the Suicide…

Interview: Yoshi Flower

Photo by Daniel Marty Yoshi Flower is hard to pin down. After releasing his first single, “Movies,” The Fader described his sound as “early Lana Del Rey except if her partying involved EDM.” He can’t easily be confined to one…

Album Review: Suede – “The Blue Hour”

Brett Anderson described The Blue Hour as “the best thing we’ve done for nearly a quarter of a century.” He is correct. Here, Suede does not try to reinvent itself in a self-conscious manner; nor does it worship the bones…

Album Review: Alkaline Trio – “Is This Thing Cursed?”

Judging by names alone, Is This Thing Cursed? is a natural extension of Alkaline Trio’s discography. Next to earlier album titles like From Here to Infirmary and Good Mourning, it seems to slip smoothly into the sense of continuity that…
