Clint Eastwood is a force to watch out for both behind and in front of the camera. The first trailer for his newest project, Jersey Boys, was released this week showing the full glory of a Broadway musical adaptation. The Tony-Award winning musical tells the story of four young men from the rough streets of New Jersey coming together to form the 60s rock sensation The Four Seasons. Told through songs that illustrate the men’s triumphs and failures, the film brings old classics back for a younger generation.
The cast is made up of young up-and-coming actors as well as legends including John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza, and Christopher Walken. With the screenplay and musical book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice of Annie Hall fame, music by Bob Gaudio, and lyrics by Bob Crewe we couldn’t be more thrilled with the dramatic possibilities of this new musical. A musical showing the progression of band’s relationship, the trailer has a gritty vintage feel that only Eastwood can produce. A classic backstage musical, numbers look cleverly cinematic with glitz and glamour hiding the drama beneath. From the trailer alone this looks to be a real knockout.
The film opens June 20th in the U.S.
