In October, Lionsgate announced that it was teaming up with Facebook, the Women in Film organization, crowdsourcing platform Tongal, and author Stephenie Meyer to put Twilight back on film. Five short films featuring various characters from the Twilight universe will be posted to Facebook and voted on by the fans. Each film will be produced and directed with the assistance of a panel of mentors that include Kristen Stewart, Stephenie Meyer, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, Frozen director Jennifer Lee, and Women in Film President Cathy Schulman.
The campaign is entitled “The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga,” and its purpose is to spotlight upcoming aspiring female filmmakers. Five women will be chosen to direct the short films and the winning filmmaker will receive a huge cash prize. The winning short film will premiere exclusively on Facebook sometime this year.
As of right now, it is not confirmed if any of the original cast members will reprise their roles.
