MGMT returns with new single, “Little Dark Age”

It’s been four years since we last heard from MGMT. Their last album, MGMT (2013), didn’t do so well with the critics. Still, most of us still have songs from Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations on our iPods that make us remember their better days.

Well, looks like the psychedelic duo, Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, are ready to return to the stage with their emblematic sound. We’ve heard a lot of talk over the past few months about new music from the band, but it was always just a rumor.

This week, we got some real news. After a long break, MGMT released “Little Dark Age,” first single from their upcoming fourth studio album that will have the same name.

The video, directed by Nathaniel Axel and David MacNutt, shows VanWyngarden and Goldwasser in several unusual and grim scenarios, accompanied by a gloomy bass and synthesizers. Just in time for Halloween, don’t you think? In case you were wondering, yes: this video is a tribute to British goth-rockers The Cure, especially to Robert Smith (and his world recognized hairstyle).

Produced by Patrick Wimberly and Dave Fridmann, Little Dark Age is scheduled to be released sometime in the first half of 2018. In the meantime, watch the video above and let us know what you think about it in the comments!
