For anyone who perhaps may have had their doubts over the overall quality of film in 2017, if there’s one area where there’s been a sustained consistency of quality has been its big, tentpole films. What’s better is that the fall hasn’t slowed down on this quality, rather, ramping up the intensity and innovation of its pictures. From Blade Runner 2049 which has earned raves to the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok by the talented
and crazy attractive director Taika Waititi which just looks like a blast to… Justice League which, I guess, could surprise us?
But of course, the one scratching at the back of our mind is Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi which so far, with the minimal images and teasers that we’ve seen, looks to be simply beautiful. We’re past the point of introducing and re-introducing these characters, we’ve learned that this new era of the series isn’t afraid to mess things up (Rogue One still causes me emotional duress), and we’re more than ready to join the likes of Rey, Finn and Poe on their latest adventure. The keenly visual and innovative Johnson being on board is only icing on the cake and the latest trailer for the highly anticipated film further highlights why.
He’s come a long way from Brick but we can see where his roots still play a part in his filmmaking. Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments below after you’ve re-watched it for 100th time.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released December 15th, 2017.
