It seemed like casting news for Summit Entertainment’s new YA franchise, Divergent, came to a halt since Shailene Woodley was cast as the lead a few months ago. Sure, there have been rumors on which actors will play opposite her (Here are the possible Four contenders.), but no one else has been officially cast. Well, while this casting news isn’t official yet, it’s likely to be soon…
Variety reports that Kate Winslet is in talks to join Divergent in an undisclosed role. Like The Hunger Games, bringing in major A-list talent definitely adds allure to a new and burgeoning franchise. Winslet is mega-talented. I’m actually kind of obsessed with her. So as a Divergent fan, I am BEYOND thrilled that she will likely join the film, and I’m sure many fans are feeling the same way I am right now.

We don’t know who Winslet will be playing. My guesses would be either Tris’ mother or Jeanine Matthews, the leader of the Erudite faction. Both are great roles in my opinion, and I would love to see Winslet play either.
For those who aren’t aware of Divergent, the story follows Tris, a girl living in a futuristic Chicago where society is broken up into five factions. Each faction represents a personality trait, and Tris must decide which faction she wants to be part of, even if it means cutting ties with her family. Snow White and the Huntsman scribe Evan Daughtry adapted the novel and Neil Burger (Limitless) is set to direct. Veronica Roth is the author, and two books of the trilogy are already released. Divergent is to begin production in Chicago this April.
