The year 2013 is slated to produce some of the best films in history. From highly anticipated prequels to exciting, comic-worthy flicks, a trip to the movies is sure to be more frequent this year. Are there lesson to be learned from the characters and plots?
“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” November 22
The second installment from the ever popular “The Hunger Games” series comes to theaters in November. In “Catching Fire,” Katniss Everdeen, who is a victor from the first “Hunger Games” filmfinds herself in the midst of a battle yet again. Because Katniss and Peeta broke the rules and became the first pair ever to win the games, a resentful President Snow has changed the format. While in the past, previous victorswould never again have to fight in the games, this time around, the games will be fought by 24 previous winners. Will Katniss beat the odds again?
“Iron Man 3” May 3
Tony Stark will go up against one of his greatest enemies in the the third installment of the “Iron Man” franchise. Stark is one of the most popular and ingenious men, but when his world comes tumbling down, will he find the strength to get up and fight the Mandarin, whose limits show no bounds?
“Oz: The Great and Powerful” March 8
After the success from other fairytale books turned modern movies like”Snow White” and “Alice and Wonderland,” you can look forward to a rendition of “The Wizard of Oz.” With an interesting twist comes “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” a film about the life of a magician who finds himself catapulted into the fantasy Land of Oz, where he must transform himself into a great and powerful wizard to defeat the Wicked Witch of the West. James Franco stars as the young wizard and Mila Kunis will play Theodora. Michelle Williams is Glinda the Good Witch.
“Man of Steel” June 14
In the new tale of Superman, Clark Kent struggles as a young child to understand his superhuman strength. When the world is attacked by General Zod he must make the decision on what kind of man he wants to be. You will find out through the course of the movie if he is ready to become the world’s only hope to protect the ones he loves.
“The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” August 23
When Clary Fray’s mother is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a demon, the seemingly ordinary teenager realizes she’s more than she ever thought on her quest to find her mother. Clary finds details about her mother’s secret past and her far from average bloodline; demons, witches and everything between awaits.
“Anchorman: The Legend Continues” December 20
Will Ferrell took the world by storm back in 2004 for his comedic role in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” as Ron Burgundy, San Diego’s top rated newsman in the male dominated broadcasting world in the 1970s. We, as a fan base, waited nine long years for the sequel, and we all screamed in delight when it was confirmed the second installment was coming to theaters in December of 2013.
“Monsters University” June 21
The sequel of”Monsters, Inc.”visits the lives of Mike and Sulley during their college days at the University of Fear, where they learned the tricks of the trade to scare humans. But you might be surprised to see they weren’t the best of friends.
