First Look At ‘Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus’ Revealed At San Diego Comic-Con

Doom. Doom. Doooooooooom.

Since 2018 has been another raging dumpster fire of grim days and bad news, it’s only fitting to see the return if the tiny alien conquerer and his bug-eyed, drooling foes of Earth. Nickelodeon revealed the first footage from Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday. The 90-minute TV movie is the first appearance of Jhonen Vasquez’s demented early-2000s cartoon since its abrupt cancelation in 2002 after its second season. Vasquez is back to write and direct the new special with co-writers Breehn Burns (Bravest Warriors) and Gary Wilson (Cow and Chicken).

The nearly three-minute teaser is all footage and music with no actual dialogue, but its atmosphere says more than enough. Once again we see Zim and his faithful sidekick GIR concocting new schemes to take over planet Earth and its dimwitted citizens. There’s also pint-sized conspiracy theorist Dib and his creepy sister Gaz seemingly finding ways to expose Zim’s true identity. And of course there’s dark purple color schemes, imposing music, and delicious waffles.

The plot of Enter the Florpus has been mostly kept under wraps but the video description details this adventure as Zim (again voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz)  finding out his alien leaders have no intent to come to Earth and help him conquer the planet. This causes Zim to lose confidence in his “amazingness for the first time in his amazing life.” While Zim goes through a crises of confidence, Dib (Andy Berman) decides to capitalize and expose Zim.

No release date has been set for Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus but the runtime is set for 66 minutes. What do you think of the return of Zim? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to The Young Folks for the latest news out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
