Well here we are, down to the last Best Picture Nominee.
Directed by Paul Greengrass Captain Phillips seems to have come out forever ago compared to the other nominees, despite it’s October release date.
Evan and I both agreed that there was nothing spectacularly noteworthy about the Tom Hanks vehicle aside from the truly impressive breakout performance by Barkhad Abdi. Abdi, at the very least, saw some love at the BAFTA’s and if I had to choose one person to overthrow Jared Leto’s Oscar race, it would be him.
The film was nominated for six Oscar’s including: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay.
We can’t help but think that this will be one of the nominees that walk away empty handed.
